AMRUT 2.0 was launched on 1st October, 2021 by Hon’ble Prime Minister. He stated that in the next stage of AMRUT, country targets to have access to clean water for all urban citizens, increase coverage of sewerage & septage management, make our cities water secure and ensure that no dirty water falls into the rivers from drains. AMRUT 2.0 aims to develop water secure cities in the spirit of AatmaNirbhar Bharat (self-dependent India) and targets to provide reliable 2.68 crore new water tap connections to all in about 4,800 statutory towns. Also, it proposes to get universal household coverage of sewerage/ septage services in 500 AMRUT cities through 2.64 crore new sewer connections. Rejuvenation of water bodies, green spaces and parks are other components of this Mission.

‘Project on 24x7 water supply’: As mandated by AMRUT 2.0 guidelines, ‘Project on 24x7 water supply’ with drink from tap facility may be taken up to cover at least one ward or DMA (District Metered Area) with at least 2000 households in contiguous manner in AMRUT City. Since water supply is under the purview of PHED, letter has been sent vide letter No. B. 13030/13/2022-DTE (UD&PA)AMRUT 2.0 dt. 17.02.2022 requesting to furnish 24x7 Water Supply details for Aizawl.
Fund Allocation to 23 census towns: Rs. 142 crores has been allocated as admissible Central Assistance which includes central share of project fund and funding towards functional outcomes. With the funding pattern of 90:10, the total fund allocation for Mizoram under AMRUT 2.0 comes to Rs. 157.78 crore (including SMS amounting to Rs. 15.78 crore).
